Travel through low grasslands up to the ridgeline for sweeping views of Coyote Valley and beyond.

This Ridge Trail section stretches nearly 4 miles through Máyyan ‘Ooyákma – Coyote Ridge Open Space Preserve in Santa Clara County. The stunning new 1,859-acre preserve, managed by the Santa Clara Valley Open Space Authority, protects sensitive habitat while providing over 5 miles of public trails to explore. Visitors can travel through low grasslands up to the ridgeline for sweeping views of Coyote Valley and beyond. You might catch sight of a herd of tule elk, the threatened Bay checkerspot butterfly, or enjoy brilliant wildflower displays in the spring.

Visitors can enjoy a wide range of accessible experiences, viewing platforms, shade structures, and interpretive displays within the gateway staging area at any time during preserve hours. To protect rare, threatened, and endangered species on the property, the preserve is enrolled in the Santa Clara Valley Habitat Plan Reserve System. A Butterfly Pass is required to fully access the Tule Elk, Bay Checkerspot, and Serpentine Trails. Access is restricted to certain days of the week to protect sensitive species.
