As a way to accelerate trail progress, we designed the Trail Opportunity Fund, a quick action fund to provide timely and flexible funding when and where it's needed most. In 2021, the first allocations went to trail projects in Sonoma and Alameda counties. Thanks to those of you who gave to this campaign over the last few years, we’ve already raised over $450,000.
Make a special gift to the Trail Opportunity Fund to keep our current projects in the North and South Bay moving forward, and help us reach our $100,000 annual goal for the fund.
Ultrarunner Lucas Horan circumnavigated the Ridge Trail twice, once in 2017 on a counter-clockwise loop, and again in 2019 on a clockwise loop. Through those epic and life-affirming adventures, he developed a “keen fondness for the land and trails that surround the SF Bay” and became very passionate about supporting the effort to connect those trails into one continuous loop, accessible to all.
To help carry out his vision of connecting the trails, Lucas's mom Jan and his partner KK worked with the Ridge Trail to fundraise for a specific section of not-yet-open trail that was close to Lucas’ heart. Over $30,000 was raised in spring 2021 to connect a magical section of trail from Garin to Niles that is in need of a bridge, which will be dedicated to Lucas with a special memorial plaque.
