Pinole Valley Watershed to Sobrante Ridge Regional Preserve:

Climb to high grasslands and shaded woodlands to see the scenic Alhambra Valley stretch out to the east.

2.7 miles one-way for hikers and equestrians, 1.3 miles one-way for mountain bikers (plus 1.3-mile return to second trailhead below); car shuttle possible


From: Pinole Valley Road

To: Conestoga Way in El Sobrante

This segment begins in the western Pinole Valley Watershed and climbs to the ridge over hilly grassland, entering the regional preserve after 1 mile. The preserve’s route is mostly a ridgetop fire road, and partially shaded, providing remarkable views of the mountains that ring the bay.

Hikers and equestrians with trail-use permits access the trail in the watershed; hikers, equestrians, and mountain bikers in regional park. Bicyclists gain access from Coach Drive for 1.2 miles of trail to small loop in Sobrante Ridge Trail, but not permitted between loop and Conestoga Way.
