Ridge Trail Multi-day Treks, 3 Ways

Sep 01st, 2026

Spending extended time in nature can clear mental fatigue, relieve stress, and open up room for genuine reflection. One study even found that four days immersed in nature boosts creative problem-solving by 50% (Atchley et al., 2012). As a long-distance trail right here in the Bay Area, the Ridge Trail offers a natural path to those benefits without having to travel far. If you’re seeking a brain reset, look no further: the Ridge Trail offers endless adventure close to home.

To get you started, three experienced Ridge Trail adventurers have mapped out multi-day itineraries with three ways to explore:

Rachel’s East Bay Horseback Excursion

Distance: 7-18 miles per day
Duration:
Up to 6 days
Difficulty:
Moderate to Challenging

For equestrians looking for a true multi-day trail adventure, Ridge Trail board member Rachel Royce recommends the annual East Bay Hills Hike and Ride, held each Labor Day weekend.

Emily’s Marin Bikepacking Trek

Distance: 17-19 miles per day
Duration:
2-4 days
Difficulty:
Moderate to Challenging

Ridge Trail adventurer Emily Bei Cheng shares this scenic “lollipop” route through the Marin Headlands and Mt. Tamalpais Watershed, with opportunities to create shorter loops for your ideal bikepacking experience.

Arnold & Tad’s Peninsula Hiking Adventure

Distance: 3-14 miles per day
Duration:
3-4 days
Difficulty:
Moderate to Challenging

Friends Arnold Ambiel and Tad Thomas set out to hike the Ridge Trail from San Mateo County to Marin through day hikes, and discovered the route offers thru-hike options from Half Moon Bay to the Presidio and beyond.
