Transparency, Accountability, and Organizational Governance
The Bay Area Ridge Trail Council aims to conduct all business with fiscal transparency and accountability to maintain the trust of our donors and partners. All our bookkeeping and accounting practices are rigorous, and accomplished with the professional accounting firm Halpert & Associates, which specializes in nonprofits. Governing documents and recent financial reports are available below. Contact us with questions or to request prior annual reports or 990s.
GuideStar by Candid
Candid is a trusted organization that provides GuideStar evaluation ratings for nonprofits. They help funders find, research, and support organizations aligned with their priorities. The Bay Area Ridge Trail Council has a Platinum GuideStar rating with Candid, the highest rating available.
Charity Navigator
Charity Navigator's rating system requires all 501(c)3 nonprofits with gross revenue of $1M+ to conduct an annual audit to earn its top 4-star rating. The State of California requires audits for 501(c)3 nonprofits when gross revenue reaches $2M+. Our three-star rating is the highest possible without conducting an annual audit. In adherence with California requirements, the Ridge Trail has opted to prioritize using donor contributions to support our mission to complete the trail, rather than costly audits.
