VIT Hike: Hill Ranch

Join the Ridge Trail Council on this special VIT* hike. We will provide guides and a one-way shuttle on this unique hiking opportunity that takes you through a spectacular, private property which connects Marin County’s Indian Tree Open Space Preserve and Lucas Valley Open Space Preserve. Panoramic vistas of the North Bay, from Mount St. Helena to San Francisco, reward hikers on this strenuous route.

*VIT = Very Important Trail. VIT hikes are your passport to visit 60 miles of special access trails through Ridge Trail guided outings.

Route: 

We meet and then will be shuttled to our starting point in Indian Tree Open Space. Some uneven off trail travel and challenging climbs are rewarded with fantastic views of San Pablo Bay and the northwest Marin hills while the group makes their way back to Lucas Valley Preserve. On clear days you can see the three of the tallest peaks in the Bay Area and multiple bridges.

Meeting Location: Northern Marin; specific location sent at registration

Time: 8:30am – 2:00pm (approx.)

Difficulty: Strenuous

Miles: 9 Miles (approx.)

Ascent: 2400′

Note on Fitness & Weather:

Your safety starts with being honest about your fitness in accomplishing this hike within a reasonable time. If you don’t have recent experience accomplishing a hike of this distance and difficulty please consider joining us another time. Steep sections and elevation change can add another layer of difficulty, even for seasoned hikers. Teens (13+ years old) are welcome if they have recent experience of a hike of this level and are accompanied by a parent or guardian.

What to Bring:

    • Face mask to wear on shuttle ride
    • Sturdy shoes for hiking
    • Day pack
    • 2-3 liters of water
    • Snacks / lunch
    • Sunscreen
    • Hat
    • Jacket
    • Trekking poles (encouraged)

Cancelation Policy:

In order to get a full refund, you must cancel with us at least 1 week in advance of the event start. Please email events@ridgetrail.org to make a cancelation. If the Ridge Trail cancels you are always due a refund.
