We are thrilled to announce that Bill Long, Ridge Trail Board Chair, is one of 3 finalists for a Cox Conserves Hero award. This joint project of the Trust for Public Land and Cox Enterprises (parent company of local television station KTVU) recognizes local environmental volunteer "heroes". Prizes are awarded based strictly on online voting. The winner's designated organization gets a $10,000 grant to help the cause, and runners up each get $2,500.

More about Bill:


Bill is an environmental hero and collaborator. His hands-on leadership has benefited the environment and quality of life for all Bay Area residents – leaving a lasting legacy of open space, trails, parks, clean water, recycling, and waste reduction for generations to come. 


Bill has been a volunteer champion for the Bay Area Ridge Trail Council for 20 years, including serving as Board Chair for the past dozen years. Under Bill's leadership, the Ridge Trail has grown from 165 miles to over 340 miles, now open and protected. His volunteer service is far-reaching, including: the San Francisco Bay Trail Project, Marin Open Space Trust, Marin County Park & Open Space Commission, and the Novato Sanitary District among others.
