East Bay Hills Benefit Hike & Ride raises $13,000 for Trails
Over Labor Day weekend, hikers and equestrians spent the end of their summer enjoying, and camping along. the Ridge Trail in the East Bay and raising money to support the Trail. Covering much of the 2nd longest section of the Bay Area Ridge Trail, hikers traveled from the hills above Hayward, northward near Martinez; riders travelled from camp to camp, and doing loop rides from camp.
Dozens of fantastic volunteers supported riders and hikers with amazing evening feasts, and hot breakfast to fuel their adventures. Volunteers also shuttled gear, allowing hikers to carry only a day pack with lunch (sandwich fixin's also provided) and layers for weather changes throughout the day. All enjoyed entertainment each evening, including live music, naturalists presentation and equine Drill team performances (the chance to star-gaze through the telescopes at the Chabot Space & Science Center was post-poned to 2013, due to evening cloud cover).
The East Bay Hills Trails Benefit Hike and Ride is an annual event benefitting the Ridge Trail Council and partners Volunteers for Outdoor California, East Bay Regional Park District and others.
