Castle Rock Skyline Trail Now Open to Hikers, Cyclists, and Equestrians!

CastleRock2010REISvcDayJoshMooreFollowing years of advocacy by the Ridge Trail Council to close a 1.7-mile "gap" for cyclists and equestrians, Skyline Trail in Castle Rock State Park has been upgraded and will re-open to all starting Friday, April 6, 2012.

With this trail opening, about 16 miles of Ridge Trail will be connected between Russian Ridge Open Space Preserve on the north and Castle Rock State Park on the south.

Recent improvements by California State Park trail crews and volunteers with the Trail Center include a new sturdy bridge capable of supporting the weight of a horse and rider. Financial assistance for these upgrades was provided by ROMP (Responsible Organized Mountain Pedalers), MBOSC (Mountain Bikers of Santa Cruz), REI and the Trail Center.

The Ridge Trail immediately south of Castle Rock State Park, in Sanborn County Park, will remain open only to hikers and equestrians for now; work to upgrade this section to allow all users is planned over the next few years.

Help close gaps and open more miles of Ridge Trail.
