Tour de Fat Raises over $14,000 for Ridge Trail Council!
Dozens of Bay Area Ridge Trail Council volunteers teamed up with fellow volunteers from the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition to host thousands at the annual Tour de Fat, Saturday, September 26 in Golden Gate Park.
Hosted by the wonderful folks at New Belgium Brewing Company, the Tour is two parts bike rodeo and one part circus. The all-day, all-green festival featured a bike parade through the Golden Gate Park, bicycle games, live music from Sean Hayes, March Fourth Marching Band, Handsome Little Devils present: Squirm Burpee Circus, and The Dare Devil Chicken Club Presents: Honeymoon Cabaret, tasty eats and of course, great beer!
All proceeds from the sales of merchandise and beer go directly to the Council and the Coalition. While final numbers are not in, this year's Tour grossed more than $38,000 (net over $28,000), with each non-profit receiving half the funds.
This is the 7th year New Belgium has supported the Council through Tour de Fat. The first Bay Area Tour was in Berkeley in 2003 before traveling across the Bay Bridge to San Francisco, landing in Golden Gate Park (and when the SF Bicycle Coalition joined the team). 2009 is the first year the Tour came to the City in September, and the weather was perfect--warm and sunny. The music rocked, the vaudeville was sidesplitting, and everyone had a blast while supporting these two great nonprofits.
The Council is grateful for all the support New Belgium Brewing Company has provided over the years, and also thanks Tour partners, the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition, as well as the dozens of volunteers that make this event possible year after year!
